The decision to run for Mayor of Weddington was the result of my deteriorating confidence in our town's local leaders. Through interactions and involvement with others at town meetings, it was obvious I was not alone. Decisions being made over the past two years, that are contrary to our town's values, have led us to this critical point. The potential lasting negative effects cause me great concern for the future of our town if we choose to watch and wait.
I took the initiative and planned ahead to get involved in our upcoming election. After searching, I was unable to find anyone wanting to be a candidate for mayor. Seeing a void and an urgent need to protect the future of our town, I decided to run. Although this is something I had never done before, I am well accustomed to facing challenges and potential scrutiny while serving my community.
I have no long-standing relationships or connections that drive my decision to run.
My wife and I moved here more than a year ago from Waxhaw. We love the location and our town's rural charm. The fight against increasing pressure to change what we have can too easily be compromised if we are not careful in who we elect to lead. Although I have not been here a long time, it only took me six months to see the fragile position we are in.
As a North Carolina native, I am intimately acquainted with our laws and state constitution which are the source of authority for our town’s existence. Throughout my law enforcement career, I have served under the same oath as our town's elected leaders.
I have extensive experience handling the most difficult encounters in person, working the front lines, and accepting the risks to protect the community in which I live. I am professionally trained to analyze situations and make crucial decisions to ensure a positive outcome.
It is very important to know each candidate. Where they are from, where they have lived, how they have served, and why they are running. It is the leadership experience I gained in other areas of our state which allow me to be a qualified candidate for mayor of our small town. We have the best schools and great neighborhoods.
My family’s future is here. That is what motivates me to run.
I encourage everyone to be involved. We each have a lot to lose if we don’t step up to protect what we have.
