WHY AM I RUNNING?

Weddington has earned its reputation as one of the best places to live in our state by protecting our residential, rural character as increased growth has come all around.  Taxes had been kept low by maintaining a simple, part-time town hall.  Ensuring homes were built on large, one-acre lots created the unique rural character we enjoy.

Although our town’s values are well understood, our taxes increased 44% last year, and our current mayor supports smaller, half-acre lots.

Approval was given to hire an additional employee, and $295,000 was budgeted to prepare for the construction of an amphitheater, public restrooms, and park next to town hall.  Ideas for this have been sought from other municipalities around.  A project of this scale would permanently raise taxes and create avenues for more crime.  Planning events and maintaining public amenities around the clock, to a standard that reflects Weddington well, would be a significant growth transformation for our unique small town.

Building a stronger community is not achieved through large projects and increased spending from town hall.

Last year, Weddington’s monthly newsletter stopped going out.  To keep the trend going, we were never told why.  This lack of communication has fueled unnecessary confusion about new developments and left us unaware of what’s going on.

There are rising concerns about crime in our neighborhoods and trends affecting students in school. We have an urgent need for bold, transparent leadership, able to navigate the problems we face and be a strong voice for each of us and our town.

I am a police officer, experienced in solving the most difficult challenges that arise in the lives of those I serve. While doing this work over the past nine years, I’ve had a positive impact on people’s lives at a personal level.  It has given me vast understanding about processes and entities involved in our local government, to know how to bring positive change to our town.

I stand strong on the principles Weddington was founded on.

  • I support homes on one-acre lots to preserve our rural character and will maintain commercial where it is currently zoned.

  • I will eliminate unnecessary spending to reduce taxes and will work with the Sheriff’s Office to implement effective and proven solutions to reduce crime.

  • Communication will be improved, and I will work with staff at town hall so together, we can better serve you.

I am committed to seeing our town succeed and do well to improve the lives of each person here.  Not beholden to large donors or special interest groups in town, I am free to fulfil my campaign promises and serve each resident well.
