Traffic Impact Analysis Meeting

WEDDINGTON, NC. August 22, 2023. Liberty Classical Academy shared the findings of their traffic impact analysis study last night at town hall.

Detailed information was collected and growth formulas were applied to properly project and show how traffic would increase around the proposed building site of the school during peak hours. Letter grades were assigned to major intersections around the area to represent current traffic conditions. Then, lower grades were assigned to those same intersections to demonstrate how they would be negatively impacted by the increase in traffic if the school is built. Sections of roads were shown to expect a decrease in average travel speeds between busy intersections while driving in that area in the mornings and afternoons during the staggered drop off and pick up times. Left turn lanes would be added on Providence Road and Weddington Road for those waiting to turn into the school. It was explained that these turn lanes would be 100 feet long and may hold up to seven cars before causing traffic delays on these two roads.

Questions were encouraged by the presenters and plenty of time was available to allow any and all questions to be asked during the scheduled time. It was encouraging to see the great turn out and participation by those who came.

Next Planning Board Meeting: Monday August 28th.

Both in this context and the seemingly endless efforts by Waxhaw "leaders" to woo and coddle to developers, is anybody looking for potential conflicts of interest between the party seeking to build and the organizations conducting the traffic studies? Perhaps traffic studies are from a government entity? Improper situations could still occur even there. Images of the study posted on Facebook by Tracy Stone showed some numbers that looked very "blue sky and sunshine" for the school. It's rainin' traffic....HARD...in Union County already. We don't need more rain! (said none of our cherished farmers regarding actual rain, ever!)
